Every person surely has experienced or will experience clogged drainages at some point in their lives. The worst experience with clogged drainages for us at AllHome is when you’re defecating and the stool won’t get flushed because of the clog. For some reason, that experience is embarrassing and can make someone feel panic. We know the feeling too well which is why the restrooms in all AllHome branches are well-maintained ensuring that your shopping experience is great, and which is why we want to share with you tips that can help solve your problems with drainages.

In this article brought to you by AllHome, we’ll talk about five causes that clog your drainages. For each, we will also be sharing with you how it can be fixed with items you may already have in your home and are readily available in the nearest AllHome in your area.

Mineral build-up

Be it in a kitchen sink, bathroom sink, shower, or toilet drainage, minerals from water can cause build-up that when the amount is large enough, can clog your pipes. To fix this, AllHome suggests you boil water. As you wait for it to boil, you can start pouring half a cup of vinegar and half a cup of baking soda into the drainage that you want to clean. Cover the drainage and wait for at least five minutes to give time for the vinegar and baking soda to remove the build-up. Lastly, remove the cover and pour the hot water to wash away the build-up.

Hair

It is inevitable for hair from any body part to fall off. Sweeping off or vacuuming hair strands from the floor is easy to keep our house clean, however, removing them from the drainage when it’s starting to obstruct water flow requires more effort. If still possible, you can use long-nose pliers to pick up hair strands from the drainage. If the location is too deep, you can use the previously mentioned technique. AllHome found that the combination of vinegar and baking soda is effective in the removal of different clogs, but for hair strands, you may add liquid dishwashing soap. First, put some liquid dishwashing soap into the drainage so that it can target the grease that’s sticking the hair strands onto the walls of the drainage. Pour in your half cup of baking soda and vinegar and give it time again for the reaction to take effect. Pour the hot water after waiting to wash the blockage away.

Soap

We at AllHome are sure that you have seen a small piece of your bar soap get stuck on the wall of your shower room. The same thing can happen on the wall of your drainage pipes as those tiny pieces of bar soap go down the drain. This is because some soap bars have grease or fat in their formulation. An easy fix to this is using salt and hot water. First, pour half a cup of salt into the drainage, then heat two liters of water. The abrasive texture of salt forces the grease build-up to go out, while the hot water melts the grease removing them off the pipes.

Fat, Oil, Grease

One of the most common causes of blockage in the drainage in the kitchen, like in your kitchen sink, is the buildup of fat, oil, and grease. If you’re someone who throws away cooking oil or fats in the drainage while they are in their liquid state, then you may be in danger of having clogged drainage. Fat, oil and grease even in their liquid form will eventually solidify as their temperature cools down, eventually coating the insides of your pipe resulting in a blockage. To help with this problem, AllHome found that using liquid dish detergent and hot water can melt off the grease. First heat two liters of water until it’s boiling then add a few tablespoons of liquid dish soap to it. The water will melt the grease, while the dish detergent will dissolve the fat resulting in the removal of your fat buildup.

Food waste

AllHome also observed that another common cause of blockage in kitchen drainage is the food particles, like fruit and vegetable peels, that get stuck in the curved pipe under the kitchen sink. To fix this, you will need a plunger. First, clear the area surrounding your sink, then fill half of the sink with warm water. After that, plunge it with a rubber plunger. The plunger will dislodge the food particles that were stuck allowing them to smoothly pass down the drain. Finally, rinse the drain with hot water to wash down the food particles.

These simple tricks with materials you can easily find in your home will help keep your drainage clog-free. However, take note that severe blockage may need extra measures like calling people who are experts on clogged drainages as some problems may require more skills or in the worst case scenario, replacement of pipes. You can also opt to use chemicals like liquid sosa depending on what’s blocking your drainage. You can also always ask AllHome’s friendly staff to know which is best for your needs.
