Why is it important to Clean An Electric Fan?

Imagine this, you’re sitting in your living room watching TV, while an ice-cold beer is sitting in your fridge waiting for you to take a cold sip out of it. The windows are open as the cool breeze and sunlight liven up the place. Everything seems good until suddenly, the air from outside starts getting hot and dry, and the sun’s rays are becoming quite unbearable. You could just simply close the windows and cover them up with your curtains, but it doesn’t really dispel the heat that’s already inside. Luckily, there’s a simple solution for that — a good, reliable electric fan.

If you’re looking to buy a unit then you can proceed to any AllHome Philippines branch, which offers any possible furniture or equipment you need to make a house a home. There’s also an AllHome online store where you can comfortably shop and pay for your ordered items all within the comforts of your home!

As with any reliable machine, an electric fan is a modern way of beating the heat of the day, all with just a simple push of a button, but just like any other appliance in your house, your electric fan could easily have a buildup of dust and dirt, especially around its blades. So how often should you clean your electric fan? Well, you need to know that there are some factors to consider to find out when your next fan cleaning session would be.

The most important thing you need to consider is where you live. For obvious reasons, residing at the center of a bustling city where cars and people pass through the streets every moment of every day, would mean a lot more dirt and dust coming into your home. Now if you’re the diligent type who whips out the vacuum cleaner and mop whenever you get the chance, then it wouldn’t be much of a problem. But if not, then you could expect your electric fan to get filthy possibly within a week’s time.

Other people found a way around the constant cleaning by using air purifiers to help address the air quality in their homes. While others just make sure to limit opening their windows and doors and having an aircon to keep their homes nice and cool. But if you don’t have either then that’s perfectly fine! Having a properly maintained electric fan is the most cost-effective method of beating the heat.

So just to recap, if you live in areas that are prone to dust/dirt like those who live in cities, near construction sites, near busy roads or highways, then having your fan cleaned at least once a week would be good enough. After all, who would want to have balls of gunk and dirt flying and sticking to your beautiful carpet, sofas, and tables. Worst of all is if you have family members with dust allergies. You’d be pretty much doing them a favor by keeping your electric fan clean and well kept.

If you live in a relatively clean environment free from those pesky pollutants then you can probably tone the cleaning down to every other week. If you live in particularly colder areas that don’t really necessitate the frequent use of electric fans, then try not to store them in places where dust usually collects. Not only would it spare you the effort of thoroughly cleaning them but it could help prevent any kind of damage to the unit.

Now that we’ve established the ground rules of how often you need to clean your electric fan, the next thing to determine is how exactly should you do it?

The first thing to do, as with any electrical device, is to unplug your electric fan from the power source. Now carefully remove the metal/plastic grate from the fan. Once it’s removed, you can choose to use a vacuum to clear out any build-up of dust. You can then wipe it down with a damp piece of cloth to make sure you get to clean the corners and little crevices.

Now that you’re done with the grates, you can now move on to the blades of your electric fan. Just like what you did with the grates, try to carefully remove the blades for a more efficient clean-up. Once removed, you can either wash the blades with soap and water, or you can use a damp cloth to wipe them down. After you do this, the blades would probably need a bit of time to dry up, so go ahead and leave them to dry, possibly for a few minutes. After all, you wouldn’t want water to drip into the fan’s motor which could potentially damage the unit.

Once you’ve wiped, cleaned, and dried all of the components of your fan, you can now put it back together. The good thing about electric fans is that they’re quite easy to take apart and assemble, so you most likely wouldn’t need any tools for this. When you’ve made sure that everything has been tightly screwed into place and that the blades are freely rotating without any weird noises or resistance, then you can now try to turn the fan on. If it works just the same, then voila! You’ve successfully cleaned an electric fan.

Always remember that keeping your electric fan clean and well kept wouldn’t just keep your room cool but would also keep your other furniture from getting dirty as well. If ever you find yourself in need of an appliance or a piece of furniture, then you can just go ahead and shop at AllHome, which is definitely a go-to store for any kind of house items you’d need.
