How to Deep Clean Your Kitchen

How to Deep Clean Your Kitchen

While wiping the countertop and stovetops daily is fine and all, a thorough cleaning is usually done at least every 2-3 months. The kitchen is the busiest and most used place inside every home. As the house of every household, it should be kept clean and here is how you can deep clean your kitchen. After all, those messy ingredients cabinets and greasy ovens won’t magically clean themselves, right?

First of all, don’t be overwhelmed by the job at hand. We’ll break it down into parts later. Second, you don’t need to focus on each and every kitchen gadget you have. You can allot a different day for those. Lastly, this doesn’t need to be a whole day cleaning activity. You can do portions of it if you like.

For our first step, gather your cleaning equipment. If you don’t have cleaning equipment, we’ve got an array of cleaning agents and cleaning equipment you can check out at our AllHome online store.

We have here a short cleaning equipment checklist for you to use:

Now that you’re ready to clean, let’s break it down into small zones to make it easier to move from one task to another. Let’s start with the easiest.

Pre-cleaning

Before starting the deep cleaning, it’s best to do a pre-clean. A pre-clean is your normal after-dinner kind of cleaning. Wipe down and clean the countertop, scrub those oily kitchen wall tiles and remove all things that don’t belong in a kitchen.

Pantry, cupboards, and kitchen drawers

The pantry is where we also store our sawsawan choices and other condiments. As Filipinos, these might be the messiest of all. So start by clearing it out, throwing away those expired products, and wiping down the storage with mild soap and water.

For the cupboards and kitchen drawers, we also have to clear it out, check those homewares and kitchen wares for damages, some might need replacements or fix. Wipe that storage down before putting your kitchen accessories back in. It would be best to find a kitchen organizing rack at our online store to help you segregate those kitchen accessories too. Also, check if those cabinet doors and kitchen drawers are squeaking and need a bit of grease.

Refrigerator and freezers

First and most important, unplug your refrigerator. Next is to clear it out, throw away any expired food, empty containers, and items you never actually used. Put the stuff you’ll be keeping on your counter and proceed in washing those refrigerator shelves and drawers. Wipe down the insides with a mild cleaning agent before placing the shelves and drawers back.

A quick tip I learned is to put a box of baking soda inside the fridge to control the odor.

Stovetop, oven, and range hood

Being the most used kitchen appliance, these have got to be on the top of the dirtiest and messiest list on any kitchen. Though we usually wipe the stovetops and clean the surface after every use, the grime and oil usually accumulate. If using a gas stove, soak that metal grill in soap and water. Clean up and change the filter of your range hood while you’re at it too. Use a mild cleaning agent to clean the exterior, knobs, displays, and all.

For the oven, I hope you clean it after every use because if not, this step will be the hardest to do with those burnt remnants and dried spills.

Remove your oven racks and scrub them separately to remove the grime. Use an oven cleaner or a suitable chemical cleaning product for the insides of the oven, scrub it while avoiding the bare metal parts like the coil. For the outside, use your all-purpose cleaner and wipe it down to remove those oil stains and spills.

When those stubborn stains and grime don’t come off, you can try using a ¾ cup baking soda and ¼ water solution. Spread that paste around the interior of your oven, leave it overnight then scrape it off the next day.

Appliances

Unplug all your appliances and kitchen gadgets like the toaster, microwave, blender, and coffee machine and wipe them all down with your cleaning equipment. For the microwave, you can soften up the spills and grime inside by microwaving lemon juice.

Kitchen faucet and sink

You might think that the frequent washing of this place is enough for it to be clean but think again. Food scraps and spills can still leave this place a mess.

Use an old toothbrush with your preferred cleaning agent, scrub the little corners of the sink including the rim of the drain. Then use your all-purpose cleaner and scrub the sink itself. For the kitchen faucet, Use a vinegar solution and soak the faucet head to clean and unclog it.

Floor and countertop

Finally nearing the end! Now that everything is done and dusted, it’s time for your countertops!

First, clear the countertops so it’s easier to wipe everything. Use a bit of all-purpose cleaner on your cleaning rug to remove that dirt and dust especially on the corner. If you want a really sparkling counter, you can also polish and buff dry it. Once you are done, wipe and arrange the items back on the counter.

The floor must be the easiest part, first, sweep or vacuum the floor to get those larger crumbs and dirt. Next is to mop to get those grime, oil, and spills off.

Finishing touches

Final step! Wipe the kitchen lights, chairs and throw the kitchen towels in the wash

Deep cleaning the kitchen wouldn’t be complete without changing out your sanitary wares like paper towels, sponges and hand soap.

You’re done! Deep cleaning the kitchen might be a daunting task at first but breaking it down into parts makes it more doable. Now, it’s time for you to enjoy your beautiful and clean kitchen!
