9 Feng Shui Tips To Create A Peaceful Bedroom

You get the most energy while you sleep in your bedroom which is why the bedroom is the most valuable part of one’s home. The quality of your sleep plays a major role in maintaining your health and wellbeing. It is quite possible that if you don’t have your bedroom and bed properly arranged according to Feng Shui, you might feel exhausted or drained throughout the day. You can feel restless even if you are sleeping well if your room is poorly designed or simply cluttered. Designing a traditional Feng Shui bedroom involves incorporating the five elements of nature (water, wood, fire, earth, and metal) into your living space. In this article, we’ll show you different Feng Shui tips that you can apply to your bedroom.

Keep it clutter-free

Purge your bedroom of items you no longer need in order to bring positive energy to the area such as donating old, worn out clothes to a shelter for the homeless or needy. Objects that you keep from your past or present that bring up any bad vibes may negatively influence your attitude, emotions, and thoughts subconsciously so it’s best to give them away or dispose of them. You should also store your belongings that you’ve decided to keep inside your wardrobe, dresser, or any storage organizers

Don’t store items under your bed

If you’re decluttering, please avoid the habit of storing things under your bed. Storage under the bed is not good feng shui because it can interrupt sleeping patterns  because from a Feng Shui point of view, the movement of energy around your bed will not be evenly distributed. For example, You’d be much better off storing your shoes in a closet or shoe rack rather than under the bed because this can be interpreted as someone taking advantage of you.

Your bed’s position matters

Feng Shui experts will tell you to place your bed in a “commanding position” where it is generally best to look across the door diagonally, rather than directly in line with if you are sitting up in bed with your back against the headboard. A bed facing the door would be the worst position according to the principles of Feng shui. This position is called in various names, “the death position, dead man’s position, or the coffin position,” because it is similar to how people carry the dead from home through open doors. Aside from placing your bed in a commanding position, you should also avoid positioning your bed directly beside the bathroom. Feng Shui believes that the bathroom is considered to be an area where energy is flushed out, so it’s is not a good idea for the bed and the bathroom to be near each other.

You should also make sure that your bed has a durable headboard, that your headboard faces a solid wall, and that you have space on the other three sides of your bed: the left side, the right side, and the foot of the bed.  As an alternative to a solid wall behind the headboard of your bed, you can position your bed so that there is a window instead of a solid wall, but you must cover the window while sleeping with thick curtains so you cannot look into the window. As having a bed directly underneath the windows or in front of them disrupts your energy as you sleep and the former symbolizes less security and stability.

It’s not about mirrors

According to Feng Shui, placing too many exposed mirrors creates an imbalance of energy and they magnify what they reflect. Make sure you don’t have any exposed mirrors in your bedroom. Keep them within cabinets so that you can cover them when you sleep by closing the door because exposed mirrors can cause restlessness.

Do not use any water element

In the bedroom, you should not have water element in any form. This includes paintings or pictures of ponds, water fountains, aquariums, mirrors, black, round, or wavy decorations, and objects made of glass. Despite how relaxing these pieces may appear, having a water element in the bedroom can influence the negative energies of financial loss in Feng Shui.

Earth-toned colors are the best

It is advisable to pick a bucket of paint in neutral colors like brown, beige, or cream for large walls to prevent overstimulating the energy while you’re resting. If you want to choose an accent color, consider having pinks, reds, and whites that symbolize the relationship energy.

Stimulate your 5 senses

To achieve a Feng Shui bedroom, you should also include décor that enrich the 5 senses. For smell, you can use essential oils via diffuser or through a candle diffuser. For touch, use soft, comfortable linen for your bed sheets, blankets, comforters, and pillows. For sight, incorporate soothing elements that you can see such as having a neutral wall color or a personal memento. For sound, you can have a speaker or two playing a soothing sound such as binaural beats or nature sounds. For taste, place a glass of water or juice on your nightstand.

Be careful of your surroundings

Assess your bedroom for protruding or sharp corners. In Feng Shui, these are called poison arrows. Ceiling beams, protruding corners or edges of structural beams, and sharp corners of cabinets fall into this category. Move your furniture or your bed away if necessary so these corners don’t point directly at you or at your head.

Great things come in twos

As the saying goes, two is better than one. In a Feng Shui bedroom, it’s best to have symmetry for balance and equality. Also, because it is believed that pairs foster love and harmony, your bedroom should be set up to accommodate two people – whether you are in a relationship or not. Place a pair of nightstand, lamps, pillows and other decorations to complete your bedroom.

Feng Shui bedrooms invite you to rest and relax, making them a popular choice for those seeking better sleeping habits. Feng Shui bedrooms come in a variety of styles and layouts, so your choice will depend on your personal preferences. Still, we hope that these tips have been helpful!
