Summer Guide in Designing Your Outdoor Space

Summer is all about the great outdoors. Be it sunbathing on a sandy beach, or conquering the peaks of mountains, any activities out in the sun will surely make our summer vacation fulfilling. However, activities like these where you still have to travel and spend a lot of money for a short amount of time are a luxury that not everyone can afford given the current situation where the price of almost everything in the market is increasing.

But hey, you don’t need to worry. Vacations can still be fun and relaxing even at home. We just have to make use of what we already have properly and put them into good use. One way of doing so is by designing your outdoor space that can become a private oasis for you and your family and friends to relax in.

In this article, AllHome will be sharing with you a guide on how you can design your outdoor space.

Set a Purpose

The very first step that you’ll have to do in designing a space is to think of how you want it to be used, which is why in designing your outdoor space, you’ll have to answer some questions. Will you use it to host barbecue parties? How many visitors do you usually invite? Do you want it to be a quiet place to relax and unwind to? Should it be kid or pet friendly? These are just sample questions that you’ll have to answer to be able to set your purpose.

Doing the Layout

When you’re decorating an outdoor space, you’ll have to use the same mindset that you would have when you’re designing a floor plan of a new home. Your outdoor area should have been logically and functionally connected to the area of your home that it’s located near to. For instance, if you want an outdoor dining area, then it’d be best if it’s near the kitchen.

Surroundings

In this third step, you’ll have to make the most out of what your space has to offer. You can place some tables and chairs in your outdoor area so you can enjoy sipping coffee early in the morning while watching the sun rise. If you notice that there are things that you don’t want to see or are bothering you, you can block them out with screens or plants.

Cozy It Up

To make your outdoor space comfortable, observe how the weather affects it. For instance, if it’s exposed to afternoon sun, then you may want to provide shade like putting up a roof or an umbrella. Similarly, if it gets rained on, you’ll have to really have something that can cover the space so you and the furniture you placed in it are protected from getting wet.

Selecting Furniture

In choosing what furniture to put, you’ll have to go back to your purpose. After doing so, select furniture that is comfortable and practical for outdoor use, meaning it should be weather resistant and washable. If you intend to use your outdoor area for movie nights, then you can get a white screen or have one side of a wall outside painted white, and get a projector. This way, if you’re done watching, you can take the projector back to your house to prevent it from being exposed to the harsh weather.

Creating ambience

If you want a relaxing outdoor space where you can feel refreshed whenever you spend time in it, then you can consider adding a water feature like a fountain or waterfall. They said that the sound or sight of flowing water can relax the mind.

In contrast to water is fire. If you’ve invited friends to hang out with in the evening, yet your outdoor area seems chilly, you can create a fire pit or fireplace surrounded by comfortable sitting furniture. With this, you’ll be able to enjoy a chilly temperature outdoors.

Light it Up

Finally, setting up a lighting system will now certainly make your outdoor space seem like a true extension of your home. Putting up lights outdoors is also for your safety. Make sure that the steps and pathways are lit up so that no accident can occur.

Having an outdoor area where you can relax and unwind with your friends who also want to tune out the bustle and hustle of everyday lives is a nice addition to our homes. A comfortable outdoor space should be a priority just like the insides of your home. This way you’ll get the feel of nature without needing to travel or spend so much money to avail tours.
