How to Make a Cozy Bed Properly: A Layer-by-Layer Guide

Making a bed has become one of those duties that few people bother with by having excuses such as “they are gonna screw their sheets again when they sleep, so why bother?” It may sound like a reasonable excuse, but it’s not. As you’ve certainly heard a million times from your mother, making your bed every morning is a must.

A well-made bed can have a significant influence on the appearance and feel of a room, it makes the entire room appear cleaner and more organized. Not only does it make the room look less cluttered and chaotic, but it also sets the tone for a restful night’s sleep. After all, slipping into a bed with smooth, clean sheets is far more pleasant than slipping into one with rumpled sheets and a balled-up blanket, but doing it right and neatly takes a little bit of practice. Here at AllHome, we’ll show you how.

Begin with the basics

  • Invest on a comfortable mattress

The quality of your mattress is essential to achieving a good night’s sleep. Before you go out and buy a mattress, you need to figure out what kind of sleeper you are. Side sleepers should go for something softer, while back and stomach sleepers should look for something firmer. And it’s a good idea to invest in a decent one because the average mattress lasts from 8 to 10 years.

  • Get add-ons for your mattress

You can use a mattress protector  every time you make your bed, since it can help extend the life of your mattress by avoiding spills and wear and tear damage. Also, the fabric prevents household allergens from settling into your mattress, these protectors are especially useful for people who have an allergy. Moreover, to improve the comfort or support of your mattress, you may use a mattress pad (which fits over the mattress like a fitted sheet) or a mattress topper  (which rests on top of the bed).

Putting on layers of coziness

  • Put on the Fitted Sheet

Fitted sheets constitute the base layer of your bedding by covering your mattress. Because most fitted sheets have elastic edges to assist hold everything in place, it’s critical to buy the right sheet sizes for your bed size, otherwise the edge measurements may be incorrect.

  • Put on the Flat Sheet

Flat sheets form a protective layer between yourself and your comforter or duvet, preventing body oils or dirt from transferring to your top layer. However, most people like removing the top sheet, since it will become a tangled mess at the foot of the bed every morning and adds to the time it takes to make the bed.

  • Placing on the Comforter or Duvet

While some people confuse the terms comforter and duvet, these two forms of top-layer bedding are very distinct. A duvet is made up of an insert and a cover, similar to a pillow and pillowcases. A comforter is a single piece of quilted bedding that lies on top of your sheets. Duvets are often easier to wash because they can be thrown in the washing machine, but putting on a duvet cover isn’t always simple. While comforters don’t require any assembling, they may require special laundry–but most people with comforters use a flat sheet, so they’re washed less frequently.

Finish with style

  • Use Standard Pillows

You may start embellishing your bed after your sheets are in order. When deciding how to make a bed, the size and type of pillows you choose might make a difference. Because down pillows are so light and airy, they are ideal for use as focal pillows. Heavier pillows, such as memory foam pillows, are likely to make a fantastic support cushion for your neck or back. Whether you prefer the basic aesthetic of two standard pillows or down pillows, decorating your pillows when making your bed is the ideal finishing touch.

  • Add throw pillows

Add more throw pillows or shams to the bed for a more stylish effect. This final stage is all about look and choice, so feel free to mix and match. A variety of square, oblong, and rolled pillows in complementing fabrics are available. Five decorative pillows are the right number for a full-looking bed that isn’t overly full. A throw blanket can also be placed at the foot of the bed. Fold it horizontally like a fan to make it seem tidy. This also makes it easy to pull it up into place at night when you need a little additional warmth.

With this easy guide on hand, you can start now in making your bed as neat as possible. Getting into the practice of making your bed perfectly every day will help you feel having the most blissful nights’ sleep and more refreshed when you wake up.
