How to Properly Clean Your Television | AllHome.com.ph

Jul 29, 2021

Not all televisions are created equal. The bulky televisions and their accompanying clunky television sets have been phased out for a long time now. These days, televisions are thinner, lighter, and much sleeker that they can be placed anywhere in your home. It can be wall-mounted now on your living room wall or on your bedroom wall. You don’t have to clean those large TV consoles that do not have other uses.

Aside from the huge difference in size, televisions made by top international brands like Samsung and LG have much more advanced technologies that some of us can’t even comprehend or use properly. Before, you have to consider getting a cable TV to watch international TV shows and movies. Cut to the present, where we now have Smart TVs that we can use to watch new forms of content via streaming websites and other video-sharing platforms.

But there’s a catch. With these thinner and lighter televisions, your cleaning techniques need to be much more delicate and refined. So we’ve rounded up a few helpful tips on how to clean your television screen and ultimately, elevating your viewing experience.

Tip #1: Clean Weekly

Pencil in this task in your scheduled weekly clean-ups. Modern TV screens are lauded for their incredible high-definition picture but if unkempt for a long time, dust build-up and fingerprints might distort the quality of pictures it will display. It’s better if you clean it regularly to keep it as good as it was the day you purchased it.

Tip #2: Use the Proper Tools

As with all things, using the proper tools is the best and safest way to clean your televisions. To properly clean your TV screens, grab a couple of microfiber cloths and a non-toxic cleaner spray. Start cleaning the screen by wiping it with the microfiber dampened with the non-toxic cleaner. Move the cloth in a gentle and slow up and down or left to right and avoid circular motions as it could leave swirl marks. Then, proceed to wipe down the entire surface of the TV including the back vents and speakers as they collect dust too.

Note: Always make sure your TV is unplugged before you start cleaning!

Tip #3: Getting Rid of Stubborn Marks

The beauty of cleaning your TVs regularly is that it will not have any pesky tough-to-clean spots–like oily fingerprints or any build-up grime. The longer those things remain on your television’s screen, the harder they are to remove.

So when you have those stubborn marks, you’ll need to show your television a little extra TLC. Avoid applying any pressure to your TV’s delicate screen. Just spot clean the area with microfiber and it will be fine. But if the pesky spot won’t go away, a small amount of warm distilled water can help. Make sure to not spray the water directly onto the screen, but lightly dampen the microfiber cloth.

Tip #4: Be Wary of Chemicals

Be careful of cleaning agents you use for cleaning your television. Standard cleaning products may contain harsh ingredients such as benzene, ammonia, alcohol, acetone, or any other harsh chemicals that can damage your screen’s LCD panels. With the sensitivity of the latest screen technologies, it’s better to steer clear from glass cleaners and to stick with non-toxic cleaners or warm distilled water. Never apply any kind of cleaning solution directly onto the screen, they should only be applied to the microfiber cloth. As any moisture from strong chemicals can seal around the screen and cause damage to the television.

Tip #5: Don’t Forget the Remote

Your television remote should also be regularly cleaned and sanitized as it is considered one of the most touched items in your home, which means that it’s shared by all members of your family. It is best to use disinfecting wipes to clean it. Clean your television remotes as much as you can, especially during cold and flu seasons.

However, if you have something on the screen that can’t be removed by simply a microfiber cloth, you can always err on the side of caution and refer to the manufacturer guidelines for cleaning included in your TV’s packaging. If you’ve already thrown it out, you will surely find it online on the manufacturer’s website to read about the best way to clean your set or you can call your manufacturer’s customer service number to ask for advice.
