This is now your Must-Need Remodeling Checklist…
“Things are easier said than done,” as one might say, especially when one’s idea of a remodel is driven by ambition and a dash of audacity. It can be easy to think of the many things we can draw up for our home plans that we can tend to forget just how to turn it into reality. What we need is a balance of creativity and feasibility. Is there a way to compromise?
In today’s blog entry, we will discuss a handful of criteria that you must know before you start remodeling your beloved home, from the game plan to lay out to the tools you will need.
At this point, we have discussed plenty of times about the actions to take before, during and after renovation, but perhaps one question still lingers in our minds: why? Reasons come in variety, but in general, they are either for functional or economic purposes.
As time progresses, a home that used to house a couple may now have to accommodate a family of two or more children plus more family members. In some cases, homeowners may have to construct a new extension of a home or purchase a new house entirely. In either case, they can be options not many could afford. Instead, others have repurposed old or unused spaces entirely. Old storage rooms became bathrooms, basements are now new bedroom spaces, etc. While the transformation may still be costly, it is still a slightly more affordable option.
But, not only does a remodeling job improve the efficiency and space usage for your home. It also increases the selling value of your home to a certain degree, sometimes significantly. Once a home is newly built, its market value depreciates over time, but when you give its facilities and spaces a much-needed facelift, it can improve upon this greatly due to becoming more appealing and more functional to potential buyers.
Before you can think about what a room or a home can become, you must first think about the place as it is now. Without a sufficient knowledge of the overall structure, you and your team may run into some unwanted problems such as load-bearing columns, electrical wiring, and hidden indoor plumbing. The information you will need is mostly mapped out in your home’s blueprints, from measurements to systems. Likewise, it is also recommended to consult your residences’ engineer to learn more about its construction.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day,” as the famous proverb goes, and, well, so does your humble abode. It can be hard to familiarize yourself with all the groundwork and processes when you are unfamiliar with the scope and timeline of your remodeling plans. Hence, it would be much easier to keep an eye on the overall progress with a calendar at hand. Write down the deadlines you want to reach, the actions you need to take, and the days you need to time out from the tiring labor. This way, your renovation project will go smoothly, hopefully without interruptions.
It should come as no surprise that remodeling your home is going to require a lot of money and that is assuming that your project stays right on budget. To keep track of your spendings, you must acquire a portfolio that lists them down; this can either be an accounting book or even a regular notebook.
Whichever the case, there are two types of spendings that you need to keep an eye on: your planned and unplanned spendings. For the former, when you or your interior designer have drawn up your ideas, you can list down the materials and tools required for the job. As for the latter, set aside another part of your notebook for unexpected expenses when the supplies you have bought may be lacking or when you have hit a snag in the construction.
Of course, you cannot concretize your plans without the fundamentals tools of building construction. While we offer a variety of tools at AllHome’s Builders Center, what you may need may depend on individual demands for each personal needs. Nonetheless, click here for an article that lists a few of those that are commonly used.
With such a heavy task at hand, safety should definitely take priority, most especially with residing family members, from children to elderly. There are a ton of dangers to consider before commencing your remodeling work, which you can learn in our previous blog article here.
To keep your loved ones in harm’s way, you could reserve an area distant from the construction zone but sizable enough for little toddlers to walk around and entertain themselves while staying distracted from the conundrum outside. However, if a room does not suffice due to lack of space, you can also ask a friend or relative for a place to temporarily stay in while the renovation is being done.
With these simple things in mind, you can now start to transform your house into a better and more functional living space for you and your family. Still, there may be more stuff that you will need that this article may not have mentioned.
