Types of Sound Systems

At some capacity, there is a certain level of misunderstanding for good sounds. Jamming to Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” would not be the same without the broad synthetic percussions. Viewing blockbusters such as Top Gun: Maverick (2022) is not complete without the piercing sound of zooming jets and missile explosions. What makes each of these sonic experiences immersive in their individual manner lies at the technology they utilized to achieve their desired effect.

Hence, as a listener, one must know this: no two sound systems are the same. For today’s blog entry, we will explore three distinct sonic technologies and how each of them can offer to you their own adventure into the phenomenon of sound.

Bluetooth Speakers

The simplest of sound producers, Bluetooth speakers are perhaps the most common and most preferred of their kind.

Their biggest perk is arguably their portability thanks to their variability of sizes and shapes. Models such as JBL FLIP5 Portable Bluetooth Speaker or LG XBOOM Go PL5 Portable Bluetooth Speaker are cylindrical in shape while others such as the ANKER Powerconf Bluetooth Speaker and the HARMAN/KARDON Onyx Studio 6 Portable Bluetooth Speaker come in a simpler, circular shape.

Because of its portability, users have often brought their speakers on outdoor settings, which brings us to another key feature: their durability. Some models of speakers have water/splash resistancy, as well as shockproof design. Therefore, whether it has accidentally fallen into a pool or dropped off a high table, know that your speakers will be safe and sound from some unexpected dangers.

Thanks to these aspects, they have become a favorite among individual music listeners, roadtrip vacationers, and friendly gatherings. However, they are not without limits. Because the sound comes from a monogenic source, Bluetooth speakers cannot project a dynamic and multi-faceted effect some sonic productions have. Furthermore, despite the portable qualities, they are better enjoyed in closed spaces for the sounds to amplify, and users need to charge their batteries on a regular basis.

Sound Bars

These large and elongated speakers are recently growing in popularity among homeowners and for good reasons. Rather than acquiring a sound system with the hassle of setting up multiple speakers, just a single sound bar can project high quality sound across all directions and surroundings, making it a preferable device for 21st-century home theater settings. And, connecting one to a television set could not be easier, as all it takes is a click on the Bluetooth settings to get that connection, no complicated wiring required.

But, prior to purchasing those speakers, you must familiarize yourself with two key aspects to know when searching and installing one in your home.

The first factor to consider is the area where the sound bar will be utilized in relation to its acoustics and the device’s length. An ideal room for a sound bar-powered is in an enclosed space where the sound waves can bounce back from the walls to achieve the sensurround effect. In addition, you should also find a location where the device can occupy in your home theater set-up, whether they are placed on a table or installed to a wall. (For context, a sound bar’s typical length is around 30 inches).

Another characteristic of a sound bar to factor in is device specification. While it can be a bore to familiarize yourself with its specs, being knowledgeable of them greatly helps in determining what model would work best for you and your home. You can learn about the qualities such as signal-to-noise ratio, impedance, and distortion rate through due research.

Surround Sound System

Still, as with most of the latest technology, sound bars may be quite costly for some homeowners to attain. Hence, some may still opt for the classic, multi-speaker surround sound system. Despite a more complicated and wire-heavy way of installation, it compensates for what it offers: a multi-dimensional and surreal immersion of sound.

To understand this effect, you must be knowledgeable of the three types of surround sound: 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1.There are three types of surround sounds, 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1. Each depends on the number of speakers and their placements within the room. For our purposes, this blog article will only discuss one.

The 5.1 is perhaps the most common, the least costly, and the most utilized in film theaters, with five speakers (the stereo, the rear, and subwoofer) located at the front, back, and center of the space, as illustrated below. Thanks to this type’s ubiquity, you can find some sound systems such as LOGITECH Z607 5.1 Surroung Sound Speakers with Bluetooth to recreate that theater experience.

And, those are just three of many types of sound systems that you can try out for your home. Besides the products featured here, you can also find more when you visit your nearest AllHome branch or at www.allhome.com.ph.
